Amanda grew up in Missouri. After graduating from ISU with a BS in Physics she returned to Missouri and taught 7-12th grade science and math for three years, in three diverse schools, while earning her teaching certificate and MA in teaching. These teaching experiences prompted her to return to college where she is working on a PhD in curriculum and instructional technology with a co-major in HCI. Her interest in HCI is in usability and designing easy to use programs and equipment for students and teachers. On the CIT side she is focusing her studies on social justice and the digital divide. After graduation she hopes to develop and implement professional development programs aimed at providing educators with the basic computer skill necessary to feel confidence when incorporating technology into their classrooms. In addition she hopes to work with districts addressing their technology needs and how they can best be addressed with the resources available. Amanda is currently working full time and has co-founded Mustard Seed Community Learning Environment in Lee's Summit, MO - an educational facility offering science, technology, and applied math programs for community members of all ages.
