Frederick grew up near Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Iowa State University in 2009 with a Bachelorís degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he worked as an engineering consultant and spent over a year managing the fire protection program of a nuclear power plant in North Carolina before returning to ISU for his Masterís degrees in human-computer interaction and mechanical engineering. He is currently dividing his time between two projects: a software package for collaborative design in immersive 3D environments, and a study to test the effectiveness of augmented reality assembly instructions. Frederickís research interests are user experience, computer vision, 3D immersive environments, and developmental robotics.
