Alan has an Associate of Applied Science in Telecommunication Technologies from Western Iowa Tech Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communiation from Buena Vista University. He has spent the last fifteen years doing Technical Support for computers, first as a phone tech at Gateway, Inc, then at the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in Vermillion, SD. He currently works for the Information Technologiy Services area of Iowa State University as a System Analyst I. He says that his position is to interpret computers into English for his clients. His position is also in charge of the Disability Resource Checkout Program, a group of hardware and software to be used by people with disabilites. His research would include ways to making the GUI interfaces of today more accessible to people with limited or no vision.
