U.S. China Cooperative Research: Utilizing Three-Dimensional Data in a Virtual Urban Environment to Support and Evaluate Planning Decisions

PI:  Chiu Shui Chan

Funding Agency: National Science Foundation

Summary: Students who are participating in this project will be responsible for completing digital models of two major components of the city of Beijing. They will be exposed to a different culture and learn to understand completely different constructional methods and social conventions while they are working on the modeling. Therefore, it is critical that these students visit these areas first to familiarize themselves with the Chinese conventions reflected in the buildings. They wil spend two weeks in Beijing to do a site survey (measuring the major dimensions for the structural elements at the Temple of Heaven) and photograph the Xidan Business District for texture mapping.
