Summary: As John Deere products have become increasingly more complex, the need to evaluate them quickly and efficiently at early stages of design has become increasingly more important. Current models for evaluating new product concepts are tremendously time consuming. In addition, the virtual models and analyses performed are usually of much higher fidelity than needed for early assessment. To address these issues, a VR-based concept modeling and assessment system is proposed. With a VR-based concept design system, a group of engineers could create and assess multiple concept ideas, collaboratively in real-time. The Advanced Systems Design Suite will enable an engineer to quickly build a 3D model of a proposed design in a VR environment without extensive CAD modeling and physics-based analyses.

The VR-based concept modeling and assessment system will help John Deere and Iowa State University to continue to build a full suite of capabilities to explore new product concepts and conceptual configurations.j
